1. 3rd NATIONAL CONGRESS ON HIGHWAYS

    Organized by the General Directorate of Highways and the Turkish Road Association, the “3rd National Congress on Highways” where the road transport system -which is a highly preferred method not only in Turkey but also in all parts of the world as it allows for door-to-door delivery and holds the largest share in transport sector with the complementary role it plays for other transportation systems- was addressed with its social and economic aspects, information was provided on its characteristics and qualities, and the relevant bottlenecks were discussed in an effort to come up with proper solutions, was held on November 25-27, 2014 at Halil Rıfat Paşa Conference Hall of the General Directorate of Highways.

  2. 1st NATIONAL CONGRESS AND EXHIBITION ON INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS FOR HIGHWAYS

    Carrying out its activities with great diligence and devotion in consistency with its vision of “Becoming a driving force in bringing relevant stakeholders from each field of road transport in Turkey together and in seeking solutions in the light of scientific developments”  Turkish Road Association (TRA), -in an effort to do its part- organized the 1st National Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems for Highways (ITS-Highways 2014) in İstanbul Grand Cevahir Hotel & Convention Center on May 26-28, 2014, in collaboration with General Directorate of Highways, under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport Maritime Affairs and Communications.

  3. 6th NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON BITUMEN AND EXHIBITION

    27 November 2013 - 28 November 2013

    The 6th of the National Symposiums on Bitumen organized since 1996 to discuss innovations and technological advancements as well as the problems and recommended solutions within the scope of the theoretical and practical studies on design, construction and maintenance of bitumen-coated superstructures, was held on November 27-28, 2013 at Ankara Sheraton Hotel with 950 participants.
    At the “Opening Remarks” part of the Symposium in which organizations, institutions, universities and the private sector took great interest, the following speakers took the floor respectively: Mr. Ayberk ÖZCAN, President of Asphalt Contractors Association of Turkey, Mr. M. Cahit TURHAN, General Director of Highways and Chairman of Turkish Road Association, Mr. M. Habib SOLUK, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications and Mr. Yahya BAŞ, Deputy Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications.
    During the sessions held as part of the Symposium, of the papers selected by the Science Committee, 18 were presented by their authors and 23 by the moderators. At the Symposium, pen drives containing the soft copies of the papers presented were distributed to the participants. In addition, the papers were uploaded to the Symposium’s website and made available to the interested parties.

  4. TURKEY TUNNELING SEMINAR

    With a view to creating a platform where the relevant stakeholders could discuss and deliberate on the substantial knowledge and experience drawn from the tunnels located on the highway routes along Turkey, which have been completed and opened, or those currently under construction or in the project phase and expected to become a part of the world tunnel literature, the “Turkey Tunneling Seminar” successfully organized by the TRA on June 13, 2013 at Ankara Sheraton Hotel hosted 800 participants including representatives from the General Directorate of Highways, academics, experienced contractors from the construction industry as well as machinery and equipment suppliers.   5. 2nd NATIONAL CONGRESS ON HIGHWAYS

    At the Congress where Mr. Binali YILDIRIM, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, gave a speech at the opening session, the participants made remarkable presentations throughout seven sessions and four panel sessions.
    In the course of the Congress programming process, the names of the guest speakers were established, technical papers were collected, and at the end of the studies carried out by the Congress Science Committee which had been formed accordingly, the papers to be included in the presentation and the booklet were selected, and the Congress Steering Committee finalized how the sessions and panels would be organized.
    The papers sent for the Session entitled Technical Aspects of the Congress and Highways were consolidated and published as the book of “Papers” which was distributed to all participants during the Congress. The presentations given at the Congress will also be published as a book entitled “Presentations” as it would provide guidance for future endeavors and prove to be a useful resource for those who are interested. It has been agreed that, considering the advantages the 2nd National Congress on Highways, each session and panel of which drew great interest, brought along for the country, it will become a convention and held once every three years.

  6. WORLD TUNNEL CONGRESS and 36th ITA GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

    Board of Directors Deputy Chairman of TRA Dr. Yücel ERDEM attended to “ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress 2010 - Tunnel Vision Towards 2020 and the 36th ITA-AITES General Assembly", which was held in Vancouver on May 14-20, 2010 and presented the "Country Report".

  7. 5th NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON BITUMEN AND EXHIBITION

    “5th National  Symposium  on  Bitumen  and  Exhibition”  was  organized  in Ankara on November 18-19, 2009 by General Directorate of Highways, Turkish Road Association and TRA member Asphalt Contractors Association. 
    The Openning Speeches were done by Mr. A. Tuncer ERTAN, President of Asphalt Contractors Association, Mr. M. Cahit TURHAN, General Director of Highways and Mr. M. Habib SOLUK, Undersecretary of Ministry of Transportation.
    Prof.Dr. Erol TUTUMLUER from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), Assoc.Prof. Yetkin YILDIRIM from University of Texas at Austin (USA) and Dipl.-Ing. Reha ÇETİNKAYA from Ruhr Universitat Bochum (Germany) were the invited speakers of the Symposium.
    750 people followed the Symposium and Exhibition with great interest.

  8. "OPERATIONAL SAFETY IN UNDERGROUND FACILITIES" MEETING

    At present, tunnels and underground facilities are gaining more importance in the road transportation system with the ever-increasing traffic load.
    COSUF, established on the basis of a resolution voted at the ITA World Congress convened in Istanbul in 2005 in order to work towards operational safety in underground facilities and, in particular, in tunnels, has assumed an important role in ensuring the cooperation of activities at the European level and internationally and offering for use the results of research, innovation and best practice.
    The meeting, organised on "Operational Safety in Underground Facilities" in Istanbul, the capital of civilisations that unites the traditional and the modern, was attended by around 160 participants, among which were, in addition to the foreign and local invited experts, representatives of the central and local organisation of the Directorate General of Highways, officials of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, representatives of other organisations, and members of the press.
    The purpose of the meeting was to raise awarenes concerning the issue at the national and international levels and help relevant institutions take required measures.

  11. FIRST NATIONAL CONGRESS ON HIGHWAYS

    1 April 2008 - 3 April 2008

    “First National Congress on Highways” was organized in Ankara on April 01-03, 2008. The Congress was realized at the Conference Hall of KGM under the patronage of General Directorate of Highways (KGM), organization of which is done by Turkish Road Association (TRA).
    The openning of the Congress was honoured by the speech of Mr. Binali YILDIRIM, Minister of Transportation. 
    The Congress was specially addressed the issues regarding social and economic aspects of the Highways along with the technical presentations.
    The technical papers were published before the Congress and distributed to the participants. The proceedings, which covers the whole presentations during 3-days of the Congress, were also published and sent to all related addresses.

  12. XXIII. WORLD ROAD CONGRESS, PIARC

    "The XXIII. World Road Congress of PIARC" was held in Paris on September 17-21, 2007 and Turkey was represented by a delegation of 5 from General Directorate of Turkish Highways, chaired by Mr. M. Cahit TURHAN, General Director of Turkish Highways.

  13. 1st BLACK SEA & 4th SILK ROAD CONFERENCE

    "The 1st Black Sea & 4th Silk Road Conference", which was organized under the patronage of Turkish Republic Ministry of Public Works and Settlement and organized by General Directorate of Turkish Highways (KGM), Turkish Road Association (TRA) and International Road Federation (IRF), took place on May 14-16, 2007 in İstanbul Ceylan Intercontinental.
    The Opening Ceremony of the Conference was honoured by the speeches of H.E. Süleyman DEMİREL, the 9th President of Turkish Republic; Mr. Faruk Nafız ÖZAK, Minister of Public Works and Settlement and Mr. M. Cahit TURHAN, General Director of Turkish Highways and Chairman of TRA.
    The Conference was also honoured by 6 Ministers and official delegation from 17 countries.

  16. WORLD TUNNEL CONGRESS & 31st ITA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

    “World Tunnel Congress” along with “31st ITA General Assembly” has been organized on May 7-12, 2005, in İstanbul Grand Cevahir Convention Center.
    The Congress was organized by Turkish Road Association with kind contribution of General Directorate of Highways and 747 delegates from all over the world attended to the Congress.
    The main theme of the Congress was “Underground Space Use: Analysis of the Past and Lessons for the Future” and proceedings were published in two volumes covering 200 papers before the Congress and distributed to the delegates during on the registration.

  17. ITA CERTIFIED TRAINING PROGRAM

    ITA Certified Training Program was organized for the first time in İstanbul Technical University,  Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center just before the “World Tunnel Congress”.
    The theme of the Program was “Tunnelling & Underground Space Use” and 17 International Scientists gave the lectures.
    84 participants from General Directorate of Highways, Universities and related organizations attended to the training Program and received their Certificate.

  18. 4th NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON BITUMEN AND EXHIBITION

    “4th National  Symposium  on  Bitumen  and  Exhibition”  was  organized  in  Ankara  on November 25-26, 2004 by General Directorate of Highways, Turkish Road Association and TRA member Asphalt Contractors Association.
    Three papers were presented by guest speakers in the Opening Session. Mr. Egbert BEUVING, from EAPA and Mr. Knut SORAAS, from EUROBITUME provided to international contributions. 
    550 people followed the Symposium and Exhibition with great interest.

  19. “SILK ROAD” INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES

    (April 15-17, 1998, September 20-22, 1999 and October 26-28, 2004)

    The first “Silk Road Rehabilitation Conference” which was organized by International Road Federation (IRF) under the patronage of General Directorate of Highways and Turkish Road Association, was realized in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on April 15-17, 1998.
    A delegation of 15 from Turkey attended to the Conference and our papers and the contributions were found very interesting by IRF and the other participating countries.
    The second “Silk Road Rehabilitation Conference” was organized by IRF in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on September 20-22, 1999 and Mr. Atalay COŞKUNOĞLU, founder of TRA and the  former  Director  General  of  Highways;  Mr. Ümit  ÖZDEMİR  from  TEKFEN  A.Ş.; Mr. Güner DORA and Mr. Alper AKANSEL from TEMELSU A.Ş. were attended to the Conference.
    Mr. Güner DORA also presented a paper, “Design Standards of Turkish Motorways” at the Conference.
    The third “Silk Road Conference” was also organized by IRF in Xi’an, China on October 26-28, 2004 and Mr. Hicabi ECE, Director  General  of  Highways and Chairman TRA;  Dr. Yücel ERDEM Vice Chairman of TRA; Mr. Vacip MERT Head of the Bridge Department, General Directorate of Highways and Secretary General of TRA; Mr. Mücahit ARMAN Director Division of Planning, General Directorate of Highways were attended to the Conference.
    Mr. Mücahit ARMAN also presented “Country Report” at the Conference.

  20. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE on “TUNNELLING & UNDERGROUND SPACE USE”

    Conference has been organized by General Directorate of Highways, Turkish Road Association and International Tunnelling Association at İstanbul Technical University, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center on October 16-18, 2002.
    The proceedings of the Conference consisting of 32 presented papers with 9 papers which were not presented due to timing, were published and distributed to the participants before the Conference.
    Prof. Dr. Andre ASSIS, Chairman of ITA and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang KRAJEWSKI from DARMSTADT University made two special presentations.

  21. “DISPLACEMENT MEASUREMENT DATA EVALUATION and INTERPRETATION FOR TUNNELS” WORKSHOP

    The Workshop was organized in İstanbul on October 15, 2002 by General Directorate of Highways, Turkish Road Association and International Tunnelling Association.     The Congress was organized in Paris by IRF. Mr. Semih BİLGİN from TEKFEN, Mr. Abdullah BİZDEN from KUTLUTAŞ-DILLINGHAM and Dr. Christopher MENKITI from YÜKSEL, who are also the members of TRA, attended to the Congress and made their poster presentations.   25. WORKSHOP

    The Workshop has been organized in Ankara on November 6-10, 2000 by TRA with kind contributions of General Directorate of Highways (KGM) and U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
    The Workshop was found very beneficial and interesting with the papers of 16 U.S. Federal Highway Administration experts and 7 papers from Turkish experts.

  26. PIARC XXI. WORLD ROAD CONGRESS

    3 October 1999 - 9 October 1999

    XXI. World Road Congress of PIARC has been realized in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 3-9, 1999 and Turkey attended to the Congress with 3 delegation, Chairman of which was Mr. Dinçer YİĞİT, General Director of Highways.
    Two papers, “Highway Activities and Revitalisation of Silk Road” and “Disaster in Turkey: Marmara Earthquake” were distributed to the participants and found very interesting.

  27. TEM-HEEP ANTALYA MEETING

    Trans European North South Motorway (TEM) Project, which is active within the UN European Economic Commission, “TEM Highway Engineering Exchange Program” Meeting was organized successfully by General Directorate of Highways in Antalya on May 5-7, 1999  at  KGM 13. Regional  Division with the contribution of Turkish Road Association.

  28. 2nd NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON BITUMEN AND EXHIBITION

    10 December 1998 - 11 December 1998

    "First National Symposium on Bitumen" was organized by İstanbul Major Municipality and General Directorate of İSFALT on December 19-20, 1996 in İstanbul and a decision has been taken to organize the symposium every two year. "2nd National Symposium on Bitumen and Exhibition" was organized in Ankara on December 10-11, 1998 by General Directorate of Highways, Turkish Road Association and TRA member Asphalt Contractors Association. Although the Symposium was considered to be National, taking into consideration of the importance and the current interest at the international level, international contributions were provided by:

    • Mr. Jacques BONNOT, from LCPC, France, "European Bitumen Specifications"
    • Mr. Willem VONK, from SHELL, Holland, "Polimer Modified Bitumen"
    • Mr. Alberto MASSENZA, from MASSENZA, Italy "The Applications of Polimer Modified Bitumen in Europe"

    And Mr. Engin ARDANUÇ from General Directorate of TÜPRAŞ presented a paper "Bitumen Production Technolology in Turkey". 400 people followed the Symposium with great interest.

  29. PIARC G2 GROUP INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

    The International Seminar of PIARC G2 Group "Natural Disaster Reduction for Roads in Mediterranean Countries" was organized in İstanbul on October 14-16, 1998. The seminar was realized in İstanbul at Maçka Hotel under the patronage of General Directorate of Highways, organization of which is done by TRA, by 124 participants of which 53 foreign countries and 71 from our country. Turkish participants contributed to the seminar with, at least, a paper in every session, and PIARC authorities declared their appreciations and interests especially for the technical contribution of Turkey to the Seminar.

  30. TEM FINANCE İSTANBUL MEETINGS

    Trans European North South Motorway (TEM) Project, which is active within the UN European Economic Commission, TEM FINANCE Meeting, where the financial matter of the member countries were discussed, was organized by Turkish Road Association by the authorization of General Directorate of Highways in İstanbul at KGM's First Regional Division on May 27-29, 1998.

  31. TEMSTAT İSTANBUL MEETING

    Trans European North South Motorway (TEM) Project, which is active within the UN European Economic Commission, TEMSTAT Meeting, where the statistical systems of member countries were discussed, was organized by Turkish Road Association, by the authorization of General Directorate of Highways in İstanbul at KGM's First Regional Division on March 25-27, 1998.

    Our Activity Program of 1997 has continued by the "Discussion Meeting" of "Special Technical Specification of Modified Bitumes and Its Contributious" which took place on December 19, 1997, by the contribution of Asphalt Contractors Association (ASMÜD). The Meeting was realized by the attendance as panelist of Prof.Dr. Mehmet ULUÇAYLI from the University of Dokuz Eylül, İzmir, (as Chairman); Mr. M.   34. AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

    The first Conference series of our Activity Program of 1997, was given by Prof.Dr. Ercan TEZER, Secretary General of our member Automotive Manufacturers Association on November 19, 1997. The Conference "Automotive Manufacturers in Turkey" has emphasized on the changing of the Sector in national and international field and also pointed out the standards that have to be followed in our Country during a certain period of time.

    The meeting, to discuss the current subjects at length, was conducted on November 15, 1996 as Panel Discussion, under the name of "New Financial Models for Highway Investment" The meeting was realized by the contribution of distinguished lecturers from Turkey's leading government offices and was found very interesting. So the book of the meeting was published and was distributed to all our members.

  38. OECD/RTR "ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY STRATEGIES IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE" CONFERENCE

    19 October 1995 - 20 October 1995

    "Road Infrastructure Maintenance and Safety Strategies in Central and Eastern Europe" Conference was organized by OECD/RTR in Slovenia on October 19-20, 1995. The evaluation of the conclusions of "Road and Road Transport in Black Sea Countries: Needs and Future Action" Conference, which took place in İstanbul on November 23-25, 1994 has been also done in the aforementioned Conference. Mr. Dinçer YİĞİT, General Director of Highways and Chairman of TRA was the Chairman of the sesssion: "Highway Policy and Environmental Issues Related to Road Network Development". And Mr. YİĞİT was also the member of the Closing Round Table Discussion, called "Strategy and Policy", where the evaluation of all the topics were done.

Experts and top managers from the Newly Independent States of Middle and East Europe, Middle Asia and Caucasus along with OECD Countries and International Organizations were participated to the Conference. 13 Country Reports from the participating countries were presented by high-level experts along with 17 papers by OECD Countries experts. A book is published covering "The Country Reports ", "Papers" and "Speeches" which were presented at the Conference.

  41. IRF İSTANBUL MEETINGS

    2 June 1993 - 4 June 1993

    IRF Geneva Spring Statutory Meetings, composed of General Assembly with 120 attendance and other annual meetings of IRF Administrative Committees, were held on June 2-4, 1993 in İstanbul, Turkey by the organization of Turkish Road Association (TRA). The meetings were conducted at The Marmara Hotel by the sponsorship of TRA firm members.

  42. IRF MADRID MEETING

    16 May 1993 - 21 May 1993

    "IRF 12th World Road Congress" was held on May 16-21, 1993 in Madrid, Spain and a large group of delegation from Turkey attended the meeting. Mr. Dinçer YİĞİT, General Director of Highways and Chairman of Turkish Road Association, was the Chairman of one of the Sessions and also presented a paper. A brochure about Turkish highways, prepared by Turkish Road Association, was distrubuted during the Congress. During the Meeting, special negotiations and discussions were done with IRF authorities concerning the Turkish Road Association.

    The Steering Committee Annual Meeting of North-South Trans-Eurepean Motorway Project (TEM) was held on March 31 - April 3, 1993 in Antalya, Türkiye, the organization of which is done by Turkish Road Association.

  44. TECHNICAL MEETING II

    26 November 1992 - 27 November 1992

    Since our first technical meeting, which is conducted in 1991, received a great interest The Second Technical Meeting was realized in November 26-27, 1992, under the name of "Bridges, Viaducts and Tunnels on Motorways". The purpose of the meeting was to inform the technical staff of our universities, public and private sector about the typical engineering implementations and experiences within the framework of Motorway Program of General Directorate of Highways.

  45. IRF AUSTRALIA REGIONAL MEETING

    22 March 1992 - 27 March 1992

    International Road Federation (IRF), Asian-Pacific Regional Road Conference, which takes place every year in one of the member countries of IRF, was held on March 22-27, 1992 in Queensland, Australia. Mr. Atalay COŞKUNOĞLU was elected as "IRF Man of the Year 1992" by IRF authorities and his award was handed over to him on March 23, 1992 at the official opening ceremony of the Conference. The Conference has a special importance for our country by this international award of Mr. Atalay COŞKUNOĞLU.

  46. TECHNICAL MEETING I

    12 December 1991 - 13 December 1991

    A Technical Meeting was organized by Turkish Road Association on December 12-13, 1991 with the aim of informing our members the typical engineering practices within the framework of our Motorway program which became an international interest focus; and also inform them about the technical problems and their solution we have encountered while carrying out our Motorway Program. The Meeting was organized under the name of "Geotechnical Problems and Solutions on Motorway Construction in Turkey" and comprised of several new technologies which were mostly implemented for the first time in our country in Geotechnical field. The Meeting was very welcomed with appreciation among the technical staff of our universities, public and private sector.

  47. PIARC MARRAKECH CONGRESS

    22 September 1991 - 28 September 1991

    48 Turkish Delegation, of which 5 was official and 43 was from Turkish Road Association, attended to the "19th World Road Congress" which was organized by PIARC on September 22-28, 1991 in Marrakech, Moroco. The World Road Congress of PIARC takes place every four year in one of the member countries and brings together the famous road authorities and expets of the world and the delegation have the chance to follow up the recent technological developments and exchange of ideas on roads.

  48. IRF BEOGRAD CONFERENCE

    27 May 1991 - 31 May 1991

    "IRF Regional Conference for Europe" was organized by International Road Federation (IRF) on May 27-31, 1991 in Beograd, Yugoslavia. The Conference dealt with the topic of East-West road relation by taking into consideration of the importance of new situation which was occurred after The Soviet Union had collapsed. 44 delegations from Turkey attended to the Conference and Turkey's paper "The Management of Motorway and Its Financing", which was considered as an attractive component of our Motorway Program and was named as "Turkish Model", was followed with great interest. The Conference was very beneficial from the point of view of Turkish international exchange of information.
